Mar 10, 2010 - Temperature and Moth Breeding

I am servicing a flour mill/warehouse facility. They are an organic facility so the products I can use for stored product pests are limited. They especially have a problem with Indian meal moth during the summer months. We have been using OMRI approved botanical products and pheromone monitors to help control them. The facility has no climate control currently and can reach temperatures of 80-90 degrees in the summer. They are looking at insulating it and cooling it. Would this help with their pest problem, and at what temperature would it help? ...

Mar 8, 2010 - IGR Alone?

There has been some talk that bed bugs can be eliminated by use use of Gentrol only. This doesn't seem possible to me. The bed bugs would have to be directly exposed to the Gentrol in order for it to be effective. Then there is the question of how effective it would be with the eggs. Any thoughts ?...

Mar 5, 2010 - And The Bite Goes On

I have a customer in a condo unit on the 11th floor who has had previous companies treat her home for a "mysterious insect". She believes there are tiny insects biting her only at her computer desk area. No signs of bed bugs, fleas, or ticks, but during my inspection of her 300 sq ft home I found a few plants with springtails. These plants were immediately moved to a permanent exterior area. The whole area was treated like a flea spray and thoroughly vacuumed for a weekly basis. She is still having the problem. We enjoy all of our customers and would hate to lose any one of them. Is there anything I should be more thorough on during my inspection process or something I could be missing here? ...

Mar 2, 2010 - Mystery Pupa

I AM TRYING TO I.D. AN INSECT PEST THAT HAS BURROWED IN A BRICK/STONE WALL AND DEPOSITED A SERIES OF UP TO 3 OF WHAT APPEAR TO BE PUPAL COCCOONS, SIMILAR IN SHAPE AND SIZE TO A .22 CAL. BULLET, ONE ON TOP OF ANOTHER. THEY ARE BROWN AND APPEAR TO BE A PAPER WASP TYPE MATERIAL. THE BRICK WAS MADE OUT OF NEW PATIO STONES THAT WERE SPLIT IN 2, AND THE MORTAR IS QUITE COURSE AND GRITTY. THESE LIL BUGGERS HAVE REALLY DONE A JOB AT "SEEDING" MOST EVERY INCH OF MORTAR IN THIS BI-LEVEL, CAUSING MY CUSTOMER GREAT DISTRESS....
